Mai
was still remembering when Hong eyes were full of tears. Mai told her that Loc, Grandfather and
she walked hours and hours from one city to another. Loc was the little baby
who cried a lot, but Mai cried, too.
Mai
remembered that each time they arrived to a village or a town she asked her
Grandfather if they can stay, but he had kept on moving.
It
was hard on Mai to remember how many
towns they stayed in, but she remember that they were often lost.
There
was a silence Mai could hear Kien scrubbing himself in the bathing area. He
sang as he sluiced water over him:
"Oh, rifles are coming closer, my sister __
Ah, the cannon is booming, Mother!
Why don't you take your baby and run
Away?"
Hong
was shaking and afraid and she shouted to Kien to tell him to stop. However,
Mai was afraid, too. Mai started asking herself many questions" Why had
Hong asked her to remember the old days?" Why………?
Then
she asked Hong about her remembering about the city and what has it to do with
kien not being welcome in the Village?, but Hong didn't answered and asked her
to go away because she is too busy.
