The oud is a short-necked , pear-shaped musical instrument with five or six pairs of string. The two strings in each pair sound the same.
The oud is popular in Turkey, Iran, Armenia and Azerbaijan


[b]The history of the oud [/b]

Many people call the oud " the king of instruments ". Nobody is quite sure when it was first made. In the past, people believed that the sound of the oud could help to treat illness by " calming people's hearts "


[b]A Syrian oud player[/b]

Abdul Rahman Jabakji was born in Aleppo , Syria. When he was still young he decided that he wanted to learn the oud. He searched for books on the art of playing the oud.However, he found many books.
Jabakji learned to play musical instruments similar to the oud.He worked hard and wrote " The Method of oud ".
Abdul Rahman Jabakji died in 2003.
