It is located at some 18 kilometers from [/size][url=https://algassania2.mam9.com/wiki/Viterbo][u][size=25][color:0b56=#0000ff]Viterbo[/u][/color][/size][/url][size=25] and 68 from Rome.
Its current name is supposed to come from the Roman-era [i]Polymartium[/i] of uncertain meaning.
It was a historical [/size][url=https://algassania2.mam9.com/wiki/Fief][u][size=25][color:0b56=#0000ff]fief[/u][/color][/size][/url][size=25] of the [/size][url=https://algassania2.mam9.com/wiki/Orsini_family][u][size=25][color:0b56=#0000ff]Orsini family[/u][/color][/size][/url][size=25], whose [/size][url=https://algassania2.mam9.com/wiki/Castle][u][size=25][color:0b56=#0000ff]castle[/u][/color][/size][/url][size=25] is at the edge of the densely-built town, until Marzio sold it to the [/size][url=https://algassania2.mam9.com/w/index.php?title=Lante_family&action=edit&redlink=1][u][size=25][color:0b56=#0000ff]Lante family[/u][/color][/size][/url][size=25] in 1645.
