In early May, Japan initiated operations to [/size][url=https://algassania2.mam9.com/wiki/Operation_Mo][u][size=21][color:9110=#0000ff]capture Port Moresby[/u][/color][/size][/url][size=21] via [/size][url=https://algassania2.mam9.com/wiki/Amphibious_assault][u][size=21][color:9110=#0000ff]amphibious assault[/u][/color][/size][/url][size=21] and thus sever the line of communications between the United States and Australia. In Burma, Commonwealth forces mounted two operations.
