The countdown has begun
Both teams entered directly into the
Champions League group stage, Barca finishing first in La Liga last
season and Manchester United coming second to Chelsea in England's top
flight, but from that point it was clear that Guardiola's side focused
on attack, Fergie opted to rely on keeping clean sheets.
Since the European Cup was renamed toward the
end of the last century, the teams have met on seven exhilarating
occasions, beginning in the group stage of the 1994-95 season when a 2-2
draw in England was followed by a 4-0 scoreline in Barca's favour in
Spain, with the legendary Hristo Stoichkov grabbing a double on home
soil.
Once again, the outfits were pitted against
one another in the group stage during Manchester United's treble winning
campaign in 1998-99 and the Catalan giants, then coached by Louis van Gal, showed they could match the eventual champions with two incredible
3-3 draws. However, the Spanish failed to make it out of the 'group of
death' at the expense of losing finalists Bayern Munich.
We fast forward almost 10 years later, and in
stark contrast only a Paul Scholes screamer separated these two sides
in the semi-finals of the 2007-08 season, United edging Frank Rijkaard's
men 1-0 on aggregate on their way to beating Chelsea via a penalty
shoot-out in Moscow.
Finally, Barca earned who got some revenge as
Guardiola's team soared to glory thanks to Samuel Eto'o and Lionel
Messi goals in a convincing 2-0 success in the final in Rome in 2009.
A dream meeting is upon us again, but which
team will achieve their dream of winning the 2010-11 Champions League -
Barcelona or Manchester United?
For me,I adore both of them,I am with Barcelona in the Spanish League and with Manchester United in the English League
I can't choose but I am going to be with Barcelona because I watched all their games in the Champions League this season
