vital to the story of Rome. He was a hero who defended the city of Troy against
the Greeks in the legendary Trojan War. After the defeat of Troy, a god told
Aeneas that he and his descendants would be kings.[/font]




[font=&quot]Aeneas travelled for years.
He fell in love with Dido, queen of Carthage, but the gods reminded him that he
must go on. Dido was heartbroken and killed herself. At last Aeneas arrived in
Italy. The city he founded was not Rome itself, but Alba Longa near where Rome
would be.[/font]
