Angkor Wat is a huge temple in Cambodia. Archaeologists think it was probably built between 1000and 1150 C.E. After the temple was constructed, the walls were decorated with beautiful stone sculptures by skilled artists. Angkor Wat was abandoned around 1431 C.E. For years Afterward, travelers were told stories about "temples built by gods or giants" that were lost in the jungle. Most of them thought these stories were folktales. Then, in 1860 C.E., Angkor Wat was rediscovered by the scientist Henri Mahout.
